BIRD PROTECTION

6.17.010 Walla Walla a bird sanctuary.

The city of Walla Walla is designated a bird sanctuary and signs bearing the legend “Walla Walla is a Bird Sanctuary” shall be placed at the appropriate locations at or near the city limits at principal entrances to the city. (Ord. 95-25 § 1 (Exh. A (part)), 1995).

6.17.020 Molesting birds and bird eggs prohibited.

No person shall shoot or molest any species of wild birds within the city and no person shall molest or damage the nest or eggs of any wild birds within the city. This protection also applies to all birds maintained or kept in the Pioneer Park aviary. However, if the city manager or his/her designee shall determine that starlings, pigeons or other birds have become so numerous in any particular location or have become a public nuisance or menace to health or property, the birds involved may be destroyed or otherwise controlled. (Ord. 95-25 § 1 (Exh. A (part)), 1995).

6.17.030 Violation – Penalty.

Any person who is convicted of violating or failing to comply with any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished as provided in Section 1.24.010 of this code. (Ord. 95-25 § 1 (Exh. A (part)), 1995).
