3.36.010 Established--Assessment imposed.

A.  Crime Prevention Assessment.  In any case where an accused has been convicted of a criminal misdemeanor, there shall be in addition to any fine levied, a penalty in the amount of at least twenty-five dollars, which shall be nonsuspendable, which shall be paid to the police department’s special investigative drug account (SIDA), described in this section.  The fact that this penalty is imposed on each case shall not in any way reduce the obligation of the accused to pay any other assessment or fine prescribed by the court.

B.  Special Investigative Drug Account.  A special investigative drug account, or SIDA account, is established for moneys ordered by the municipal court, the Yakima County district court, or the Yakima County superior court to be paid to the police department, which funds shall be used for drug or other criminal investigations, public education on crime prevention or detection, crime prevention projects or purposes, or for the acquisitions of, improvements to, or maintenance of equipment for the municipal court.  (Ord. 887 §§1, 2, 1989)
