3.08.010 Fire department – Established.

There is hereby created and established the fire department of the city of Wenatchee. (Ord. 1494 Art. 1 § 1, 1956)

3.08.020 Number of employees – Minimum.

The department shall consist of a chief and such other officers as the city commission may deem necessary for the effective operation of the department, provided that the fully paid membership of the department shall consist of not less than one paid fireman for every 800 population. (Ord. 1494 Art. 1 § 2, 1956)

3.08.030 Employees – Appointment by commission – Volunteers.

The chief and all personnel shall be appointed by the city commission. The volunteer membership of the department shall be not less than 15 members and not more than 26 members and shall be able-bodied male citizens residing within the city of Wenatchee. Each volunteer fireman shall be required to pass a medical and physical examination in the manner prescribed by the Volunteer Firemen’s Relief and Pension Act. (Ord. 1494 Art. 1 § 3, 1956)

3.08.040 Officer in charge – Powers.

The officer in charge of the department shall have power to assign equipment for response to calls inside the city or, in the case of calls outside the city, may assign equipment in accordance with contracts and mutual aid agreements or when the absence of such equipment will not jeopardize protection in the city of Wenatchee. 3.08.050 Chief – Responsible to commission – Reports.

The chief shall be responsible to the city commission and shall make such reports thereto as the city commission may require. (Ord. 1494 Art. 2 § 1, 1956)

3.08.060 Chief – Powers and duties.

The chief, subject to approval of and under the direction of the city commissions shall:

(1) Formulate rules and regulations to govern the department, and

(2) Conduct suitable drills or instruction in the operation and handling of equipment, first aid and rescue work salvage, a study of buildings in the city of Wenatchee, fire prevention, water supplies, and all other matters generally considered essential to good firemanship and safety of life and property. (Ord. 1494 Art. 2 § 2, 1956)

3.08.070 Chief – Investigation, suppression of arson.

The chief shall assist the proper authorities in suppressing the crime of arson by investigating or causing to be investigated the cause, origin and circumstances of all fires. (Ord. 1494 Art. 2 § 3, 1956)

3.08.080 Chief – Duty to keep records.

The chief shall maintain complete records of all fires, inspections, apparatus and equipment, personnel and other information concerning the work of the department. (Ord. 1494 Art. 2 § 4, 1956)

3.08.090 Chief – Annual report.

The chief shall make a complete annual report to the city commission within one month after the close of the fiscal year, such report to include the fire loss and a complete report of department activities, together with comparative data for the previous years. (Ord. 1494 Art. 2 § 5, 1956)
