3.44.010 Established – Source of funds.

The general fund is created, into which shall be placed all monies received by the city unless otherwise provided for. [Ord. 5-04 § 1, 2004; Ord. 307 § 3, 1979].

3.44.020 Purpose.

The general fund shall be used to pay all claims and demands against the city unless otherwise provided for. [Ord. 5-04 § 1, 2004; Ord. 307 § 3(a), 1979].

3.44.030 Petty cash revolving funds – Created.

There is created and established a general fund petty cash fund for the purpose of paying for purchases of small items and supplies and other expenses minor in nature incurred in connection with the official business of the city and for the making of change. One thousand five hundred dollars is authorized for the petty cash fund. 3.44.031 Petty cash fund distribution.

The petty cash fund herein established shall be distributed as follows:

A. Four hundred dollars for the finance department change fund;

B. Three hundred dollars for the finance department petty cash fund;

C. Four hundred dollars for the community development and public works change fund;

3.44.032 Petty cash fund custodian.

The finance director or his or her designee shall be the custodian of all petty cash and change funds created pursuant to this chapter. A reconciliation of each fund shall be made periodically by someone other than the custodian. [Ord. 22-12 § 2, 2012].

3.44.033 Receipts – Finance department petty cash replenishment.

Each disbursement from the petty cash fund shall be supported by a receipt showing the date, recipient, purpose, and amount of each cash disbursement. The fund shall be replenished at least monthly. [Ord. 22-12 § 2, 2012].

3.44.034 Funds not for personal advances.

The petty cash and change funds created pursuant to this chapter shall not be used for personal use or personal cash advances secured by check or other IOUs and any use of such funds for other than expenditures incurred in connection with the official department business shall be considered a misappropriation of public funds. 3.44.040 Police confidential account established – Maximum deposit.

The city finance director is authorized to create within the general fund an imprest fund for the police department’s confidential funds with the police chief as the custodian of record. The maximum amount of the account will not exceed $1,000. [Ord. 18-13 § 1, 2013; Ord. 1-07 § 1, 2007].
