SPEED LIMITS

10.08.005 Twenty miles per hour speed limit.

The vehicle speed limit on the following streets is 20 miles per hour:

(1) West Newell Avenue in the city of Westport from Highway 105, also known as South Forrest Street, to Surf Street;

(2) Pacific Avenue east of 2nd Street;

(3) Seattle Street between Broadway and Central;

(4) Olympia between Ocean Avenue and Seattle Street;

(5) Melbourne between Ocean and Seattle;

(6) Jetty View Drive;

(7) Westhaven Drive;

(8) Nyhus Street.

The public works department of the city of Westport is directed to make the appropriate signal changes to effectuate the requirements of this section. (Ord. 1556(b) § 1, 2014)

10.08.008 Fifteen miles per hour cautionary speed limits.

In addition to the regulatory speed limits established in this chapter, the following areas with limited sight distance due to hills shall be posted with cautionary signs indicating that 15 miles per hour is the recommended speed limit:

(1) West Newell Avenue between Montesano Street and Ocosta Street;

(2) West Newell Avenue between Highway 105 Spur and Surf Street;

(3) Veterans Avenue between Hoquiam Street and Surf Street;

(4) Jetty View Drive.

The public works department of the city of Westport is directed to make the appropriate signal changes at these intersections to effectuate the requirements of this section. (Ord. 1556(b) § 2, 2014)

10.08.010 Twenty-five miles per hour speed limit.

The maximum speed on the following named streets located on property owned by the Port of Grays Harbor, and located in the city, shall be 25 miles per hour: Front Avenue, First Avenue, Second Avenue, Third Avenue, Beach Boulevard, Revetment Boulevard, Cover Street, Coast Street, Ocean Street, Harbor Street, Dock Street, Bay Street, Lamb Street, Patterson Street, McNeil Street, Vance Street and Wilson Street. 10.08.012 Thirty miles per hour speed limit.

No vehicle shall travel at a speed in excess of 30 miles per hour on North Montesano, between the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and North Montesano and northward to a point 300 feet north of the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and North Montesano. (Ord. 832 § 1, 1988)

10.08.015 Thirty-five miles per hour speed limit.

The maximum speed on the following named streets in the city shall be 35 miles per hour:

(1) North Forrest Street from a point 1,000 feet west of the intersection of North Forrest and Montesano Avenues to the intersection of North Forrest Street and North Street. (Ord. 787, 1986)

10.08.020 Speeds on Highway 105.

The maximum speeds on State Highway Route 105 in the city of Westport shall be as follows: Starting at the south city limits along Forrest Street to Grant Avenue, 35 miles per hour; thence on Forrest Street from Grant Avenue to Ocean Avenue, 30 miles per hour; thence on Ocean Avenue to Montesano Street, 30 miles per hour; and thence on Montesano Street to Elizabeth Avenue, 30 miles per hour; thence from Elizabeth Avenue to Bay Street, 35 miles per hour; thence from Bay Street to the end of State Highway Route 105, 25 miles per hour. 10.08.030 Excessive speed on roadways with standing water.

(1) No person shall drive a vehicle on a street or highway in the city of Westport in violation of the basic rule and maximum limits contained in RCW 46.61.400 as it currently exists or is hereinafter amended.

(2) In addition to the provisions of RCW 46.61.400 as it currently exists or is hereinafter amended, no person shall drive a vehicle on a street or highway in the city of Westport upon which standing water exists at a speed which causes said water to leave said roadway. A violation of this subsection shall be punishable by a fine in an amount not less than $250.00, nor more than $500.00. (Ord. 1201, 1999)
