2.16.010 Volunteer fire department generally.

The volunteer fire department of the town which is hereby created, shall consist of not more than twenty-five (25) members, including the fire chief, which members other than the fire chief shall be appointed by the mayor upon the recommendation of the fire chief. Such department is authorized to participate in the volunteer fireman’s relief and compensation fund of the state of Washington. (Ord. 474 § 3(F), 1996: unnumbered, undated ordinance § 2)

2.16.020 Compensation of members.

The members of the fire department shall receive such compensation for their services as the council may, from time to time, by resolution specify. (Unnumbered, undated ordinance § 6)

2.16.030 Fire chief—Appointment—Powers—Duties.

A. The mayor shall appoint a fire chief, who shall have the general charge and direction of the fire department and shall have, subject to the direction of the mayor and council, the custody of all of the property and equipment of the fire department, and shall hold office at the discretion of the mayor.

B. The fire chief shall have sole control of all persons connected with the fire department, and full power and authority over its government and discipline, and he may to that end prescribe and establish, from time to time, such rules and regulations as he may deem advisable by and with the consent of the mayor and council.

C. The fire chief shall inquire into the cause of all fires that may occur in the town as soon as may be after they occur, and cause to be kept a record of his findings in each case. He shall have power to cause the removal of any property whenever it shall become necessary for the preservation of such property from fire, or to prevent the spreading of fire, or to protect adjoining property from fire, and he may cut down and remove any building, structure, fence or other improvement for that purpose.

D. The fire chief shall be vested with all of the powers and authority of other town police or peace officers when engaged in work connected with his office as such fire chief. (Ord. 474 § 3(E), 1996; unnumbered, undated ordinance §§ 1, 3—5)

2.16.040 Driving over fire hose.

It is unlawful to drive any vehicle over any unprotected fire hose of the fire department of the town of Winthrop. (Unnumbered, undated ordinance § 7)
