POLICE SALE OF UNCLAIMED OR CONFISCATED PROPERTY

1.69.010 Record of property—Notice of sale.

There shall be kept in the office of the chief of police a record containing a description of all property seized or taken by any member of the police force, or coming into the possession of the police department, with the date of its receipt and the manner in which, and source from which, it was received. The chief of police shall, whenever he deems it necessary and whenever the amount of such property justified the expense, publish in the official newspaper a description of all such property which shall have been in custody for a period of three months or more next preceding, unless the same shall have been ordered destroyed, together with a notice that the same will be sold at public auction at a time and place therein mentioned; not less than ten nor more than fifteen days after the publication of such notice, unless the owners thereof shall, prior to such time, prove ownership and reclaim the same. 1.69.020 Sale at auction—Disposition of proceeds.

The chief of police shall, at the time and place named in said notice, sell at public auction such of said property described as aforesaid, as shall remain unclaimed; provided, that where any of such property as above mentioned shall be of perishable nature the same may be sold in such time and manner as the chief of police shall deem necessary. The proceeds from such sales shall be paid into the city treasury and be placed to the credit of the current expense fund. (Ord. A-320 § 2, 1917).
