CONTEMPT OF COURT

9.10.010 Contempt of court in municipal court.

(a) The municipal justice of the municipal court of the village of Arena, Iowa County, Wisconsin, may punish for contempt of its court any person or persons found guilty of the following:

(1) Disorderly, contemptuous or insolent behavior or conduct towards the municipal justice of the court;

(2) Conduct which interrupts or tends to interrupt the municipal justice or the court proceedings;

(3) Conduct that impairs the respect due the municipal justice or the court or any other act or nonact which could be construed to be a contempt or disrespect of the court.

(b) The municipal justice of the municipal court may punish any person for contempt of the municipal court for any person or persons found guilty of resistance or disobedience to any lawful order or process made or issued by the municipal justice.

(c) No person shall be punished for contempt of court by the municipal justice until a reasonable opportunity has been given to the defendant to be heard in his defense; and for that purpose the municipal justice may, if the defendant is not present, issue a warrant to bring the offender before the municipal court.

(d) Penalty. Any person found guilty of a violation of this section shall be subject to the penalties as set forth under AMC 1.05.060. [Prior code § 9-8-1].
