Article I. General Provisions

10.15.010 One-way streets and alleys.

Upon those streets, parts of streets and in those alleys described in AMC 10.15.090, vehicular traffic shall move only in the indicated direction when proper signs indicating the direction of traffic are erected and maintained at every intersection where movement in the opposite direction is prohibited. 10.15.020 Through streets and stop intersections.

Those streets, parts of streets and stop intersections described in AMC 10.15.100 and 10.15.110 are declared to be through streets or stop intersections for the purpose of this title. [Code 2000 § 71.02; Code 1981 § 10.24.020.]

10.15.030 Position for stopping or yielding.

Every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop or yield sign at an intersection shall stop or yield, as the case may be, at such sign or at a clearly marked stop line before entering the intersection except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic-control signal. [Code 2000 § 71.03; Code 1981 § 10.28.020.]

10.15.040 Maximum weight limit on street.

It is unlawful for any person to operate on any street of the city paved with asphalt or other bituminous mixture when the combined weight of the vehicle and load, including the driver, is more than 10,000 pounds, unless the driver has, in advance of such driving, first obtained a permit for such travel from the city. [Code 2000 § 71.04; Code 1981 § 10.56.070.]

10.15.050 Exhaust fires prohibited.

No person shall use or operate within the city any motor vehicle which has attached or installed any device which causes fire or flame to be thrown from the exhaust pipe of the motor vehicle. [Code 2000 § 71.05; Code 1981 § 10.56.090.]

Article II. Speed Regulations

10.15.060 State speed laws applicable.

The state traffic laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within this city, except as this title, as authorized by state law, declares and determines. [Code 2000 § 71.25; Code 1981 § 10.16.010.]

10.15.070 Authority to post signs.

The Traffic Commission shall have authority to post signs designating the speed limitations set forth in AMC 10.15.080. [Code 2000 § 71.26; Code 1981 § 10.16.020.]

10.15.080 Speed limits designated.

It is unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle upon any of the streets or alleys of this city in excess of the speeds set forth as follows:

(A) Twenty miles per hour in any business district, unless otherwise posted;

(B) Thirty miles per hour in any residence district, unless otherwise posted;

(C) In any designated school zone, except on state highways, 30 miles per hour unless otherwise determined by ordinance and so posted along the streets, but such posted speed limit shall not be less than 20 miles per hour pursuant to IC 9-21-5-6. [Code 2000 § 71.27; Code 1981 § 10.16.030.]

10.15.090 One-way streets.

10.15.100 Through streets.

In accordance with AMC 10.15.020, the following streets shall be through streets:

10.15.110 Stop intersections.

In accordance with AMC 10.15.020 and when signs are erected giving notice thereof, the following intersections shall be stop intersections:

10.15.160 Prohibited turns.

When signs are erected giving notice thereof, it is unlawful to make a turn on the following streets:
