4.44.010 Created – Powers and duties.

There is created a senior services advisory committee (“committee”) that shall advise the city council on policy and budgetary subjects related to senior services. [Ord. 1161 § 1, 1996.]

4.44.020 Committee – Composition.

The committee consists of seven members, one of whom shall be a member of the city council, one of whom may reside outside the city limits of the city of Des Moines, and up to two of whom may reside outside the city limits but work or volunteer within the city limits. 4.44.030 Ex officio member.

The park and recreation director for the city or designee shall serve as an ex officio member of the committee. [Ord. 1161 § 3, 1996.]

4.44.040 Term.

Four members of the committee are appointed to a two-year term and three members of the committee are appointed to a four-year term. A the time of appointment, the city council shall designate a term for each member. Members appointed to a two-year term shall serve until December 31, 1997, and members appointed to the four-year term shall serve until December 31, 1999. Members appointed to succeed members appointed to a two-year term shall be appointed to a four-year term. [Ord. 1161 § 4, 1996.]

4.44.050 Meetings.

The committee meets six times a year at a location designated by the city. [Ord. 1161 § 5, 1996.]

4.44.060 Reports to city council.

The presiding officer of the committee or designee shall appear annually before the city council at an open public meeting and present a report as to the activities of the committee during the previous year and make such recommendations as directed by the committee. Nothing contained in this section shall prevent the presiding officer of the committee or designee from appearing before the city council at an open public meeting at such other times as the committee corporately shall direct. 4.44.070 Scope of duties.

The scope of duties of the committee are:

(1) To advise the city council on policy and budget issues relating to the delivery of senior services.

(2) To advise the city council on current and future facilities relating to the delivery of senior services.

(3) To review federal, state, and county laws and regulations, proposed laws and regulations, and advise the city council as to the impact of such laws and regulations on the delivery of senior services.

(4) To perform such other tasks as are assigned by the city council. [Ord. 1161 § 7, 1996.]
