CITY PROSECUTOR

2.22.010 Office created – Appointment of city prosecutor.

There is hereby created the office of city prosecuting attorney. The city prosecuting attorney shall be appointed by the mayor, which appointment shall be subject to confirmation by majority vote of the city council. Appointment of a city prosecuting attorney may be on a full-time basis or by any reasonable contractual arrangement for such professional services. (Ord. 2055 § 1, 2022).

2.22.020 Qualifications and duties.

The city prosecuting attorney shall be licensed to practice law in the state of Washington, be in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association and must possess the qualifications deemed necessary by the mayor and city council as indicated in any job description or solicitation for appointment.

The city prosecuting attorney shall be responsible for the prosecution of all misdemeanor crimes and civil infractions that occur within the city of Pacific. (Ord. 2055 § 1, 2022).

2.22.030 Associate counsel.

From time to time, as the need arises, the city may contract for additional counsel to assist the prosecuting attorney. The mayor is authorized to contract for associate counsel services, provided total compensation does not exceed the mayor’s delegated authority. (Ord. 2055 § 1, 2022).
