SPEED LIMITS1

10.20.010 Prima facie speed limit.

Except as provided herein, the prima facie speed limit for all streets and highways shall be as set forth in the Vehicle Code. [Ord. 808 § 1, 1987].

10.20.020 State highway limit.

The prima facie speed limit for State highways within the City shall be determined by the California Department of Transportation. [Ord. 808 § 1, 1987].

10.20.030 Local streets limit.

A prima facie speed limit greater than or less than 25 miles per hour may be designated by the City Council for certain specified local streets in the manner provided herein.

A. Said designations shall be made by a resolution of the City Council adopted pursuant to this section.

B. Any such resolution shall declare the designated speed to be most appropriate to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and to be reasonably safe.

C. Any such declaration shall be based upon appropriate traffic engineering survey data.

D. Any prima facie speed limit so designated shall become effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected upon the street or streets specified. [Ord. 808 § 1, 1987].
