ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS: Repealed Ord. 1755

11-8.1 Authorization Required For Electrical Energy Supply Connection To Installations; Exception: Repealed Ord. 1755

Except where work is done under an annual permit provided for in this chapter, it shall be unlawful for any person to make connection from a supply of electricity, to supply electricity to any electrical equipment or to use or operate equipment, for the installation of which a permit is required by this chapter, or which has been disconnected or ordered to be disconnected by the building official, until the connection or use has been authorized by the building official. 11-8.2 Right Of Entry For The Purposes Of Inspection: Repealed Ord. 1755

The building official shall have the right, during reasonable hours, to enter any building or premises in the discharge of his official duties, or for the purpose of making any inspection, reinspection or test of the electrical equipment contained therein or its installation; provided, however, that no reinspection shall be made in any dwelling house while it is occupied as a dwelling without first obtaining the consent of the occupant thereof. 11-8.3 Inspection Of Equipment Installed Under A Permit Other Than An Annual Permit; Issuance Of Certificate Of Approval: Repealed Ord. 1755

a. Upon the completion of any installation of electrical equipment which has been made under a permit other than an annual permit issued pursuant to this chapter, it shall be the duty of the person making the installation to notify the building official; the building official shall inspect the installation as soon after notification as practicable.

b. When the building official, upon an inspection provided for by subsection 11-8.3a of this section, finds the installation to be in conformity with the provisions of this chapter, he shall issue to the person making the installation a certificate of approval, with a duplicate copy for delivery to the owner, authorizing the use of the installation and connection to the supply of electricity and shall send written notice of the authorization to the agency supplying the electrical service. 11-8.4 Inspection Of Equipment Installed Under An Annual Permit; Frequency; Approval: Repealed Ord. 1755

a. At regular intervals, the building official shall visit all premises where work may be done under an annual permit provided for in this chapter and shall inspect all electrical equipment installed under the permit since the date of his last previous inspection and, upon the expiration of the annual permit, he shall issue a certificate of approval for such work as is found to be in conformity with the provisions of this chapter, after the fee required by subsection 11-7.6 of this chapter for an annual permit has been paid.

b. The interval between inspections made pursuant to subsection 11-8.4a of this section shall depend upon the amount and character of the work being done under the annual permit issued pursuant to this chapter. (Code 1972 §11-43)

11-8.5 Methods Of Inspection When Electrical Equipment Is To Be Concealed: Repealed Ord. 1755

When any electrical equipment authorized by a permit or an annual permit issued pursuant to this chapter is to be concealed against inspection by the permanent placement of parts of a building, the person installing the equipment shall notify the building official and the equipment shall not be concealed until it has been inspected and approved by the building official, or until twenty four (24) hours, exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays or holidays, shall have elapsed from the time of the notification; however, on large installations where the concealment of equipment proceeds continuously, the person installing the electrical equipment shall give the building official due notice and inspections shall be made periodically during the progress of the work. 11-8.6 Certificate Of Approval Authorizing Use Of Temporary Installation: Repealed Ord. 1755

When a certificate of approval is issued authorizing the connection and use of a temporary installation, the certificate shall be issued to expire at a time to be stated and shall be revocable by the building official for cause. (Code 1972 §11-45)

11-8.7 Notice Of Defects In Installation: Repealed Ord. 1755

If, upon an inspection made pursuant to this section, an electrical installation is not found to be fully in conformity with the provisions of this chapter, the building official shall at once forward to the person making the installation a written notice stating the defects which have been found to exist. (Code 1972 §11-46)

11-8.8 Procedures When Electrical Equipment Found Defective And Dangerous: Repealed Ord. 1755

a. When and if any electrical equipment is found by the building official to be dangerous to property or to persons by reason of defective construction, design, installation or the manner of maintenance, the person responsible for the electrical equipment shall be notified in writing and shall make all changes or repairs required to place the equipment in a safe condition.

b. If the work is not completed within fifteen (15) days after the notice given pursuant to subsection 11-8.8a of this section or such longer period as may be specified by the building official in the notice, the building official shall have authority to disconnect or order the discontinuance of electric service to the electrical equipment, and any person ordered to disconnect the electrical service shall do so within twenty four (24) hours and shall not reconnect or allow it to be reconnected until notified to do so by the building official. 11-8.9 Disconnecting Electrical Equipment Constituting Immediate Hazard: Repealed Ord. 1755

In the case of an emergency where it is necessary for the safety of persons or property or where electrical equipment may interfere with the work of the fire department, the building official shall have the authority to immediately disconnect any electrical equipment which constitutes an immediate hazard.
