5.20.01 State registration required – Local license.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in the business of a roofing contractor, as defined by the Kansas Roofing Registration Act (KRRA), within the city without first having a valid state registration certificate.
(b) The holder of a valid roofing contractor’s certificate issued under the KRRA shall present such certificate to the city clerk when applying for a city roofing contractor license. Upon application and verification that the roofing contractor is in good standing pursuant to the KRRA and the payment of the licensing fee set out in BSMC 5.20.02, the city clerk shall issue a city license for the period covered by the state registration.
(c) Application for a roofer’s license shall be made upon a form supplied by the city which shall disclose the name of the applicant, the applicant’s place of business within the city (and home office if not a resident), and the applicant’s state registration number. The application shall be signed by the contractor or the contractor’s authorized agent. (Ord. 891 § 1)
5.20.02 Fee.
The fee for a roofing license shall be $10.00. (Ord. 891 § 2)
5.20.03 Definitions – Term – Exceptions.
(a) The words and phrases used in this chapter shall have the same meanings as those used in the Kansas Roofing Registration Act, unless the context requires otherwise.
(b) The license granted hereunder shall continue in full force and effect until the earlier of the expiration date stated on the license or the revocation or expiration of the state registration certificate.
(c) The licensing requirements set forth in this chapter shall not apply to those persons identified in 2013 Kansas Session Laws, Chapter 115, Sections 9(a)(1) through (8). (Ord. 891 § 3)
5.20.04 Permits – Inspections.
All contractors licensed under this chapter shall be required to obtain such building permits and submit to such inspections as may be required by city code or other local rules and regulations. (Ord. 891 § 4)
