A. There is created and established a fire department of the city, members of which shall be volunteer firemen with a fire chief and assistant fire chief.
B. The fire chief and assistant fire chief shall be appointed by the mayor unless the city of Palouse chooses to provide fire protection to its citizens through an interlocal agreement with another agency, in which case the appointment of the fire chief and assistant fire chief shall be controlled by the terms of the interlocal agreement. 2.24.020 Duties.
The fire chief and the assistant fire chief shall be responsible for the discipline, good order and proper operation of the fire department. The fire chief shall keep the city council advised of the needs of the fire department. [Ord. 401 §3, 1967].
