14.07.010 Adopted.
There has been adopted by the city of Sumas that certain code known as the International Fire Code, as amended by Chapter 51-54A WAC, including those standards of the National Fire Protection Association specifically referenced in the International Fire Code; provided, that, notwithstanding any wording in this code, participants in religious ceremonies shall not be precluded from carrying handheld candles. Section 503, Fire Apparatus Access Roads, is also adopted. Finally, such adoption shall include Appendices A through G. (Ord. 1713 § 6, 2017: Ord. 1597 § 4, 2012: Ord. 1413 § 11 (part), 2005)
14.07.015 Amendments—Additions.
Section 101.1 of the International Fire Code is amended as follows:
Section 101.1 Title. These regulations shall be known as the fire code of the city of Sumas, hereinafter referred to as “this code.”
A. Wherever the word “jurisdiction” is used in the International Fire Code, it means the city of Sumas.
B. Wherever the term “corporate counsel” is used in the International Fire Code, it means the attorney for the city of Sumas.
C. “Fire Department” means that fire department providing fire protection services for the city of Sumas, or as otherwise designated by the city of Sumas.
D. “Fire Chief” means the chief of that fire department providing fire protection services for the city of Sumas, or the city’s own fire code consultant.

14.07.020 Violation—Misdemeanor.
Any person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter or the International Fire Code adopted herein or fails to comply therewith, or who violates or fails to comply with any order made thereunder, or who builds in violation of any detailed statement of specifications or plans submitted and approved thereunder, or any certificate or permit issued thereunder, and from which no appeal has been taken, or who fails to comply with such an order as affirmed or modified by the city council, or by a court of competent jurisdiction, within the time fixed therein, is, for each and every violation or failure to comply, guilty of a misdemeanor. The imposition of a criminal penalty shall not excuse the violation or permit it to continue and shall not be held to prevent the enforced removal of prohibited conditions.
