12.24.010 Bench mark established as base.

The bench mark established by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey as of May 22, 1934, is established as the base of grades for the city, as follows:

At Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, at the corner of Third and Rose Streets, on the north side of the city hall, at the main entrance, and in the top of the west end of the first step. A standard disk, stamped G 40 1933. (289.783 meters or 950.730 feet.)

(Prior code § 9.04.010).

12.24.020 Method for establishing elevations.

Hereafter in establishing or reestablishing grade elevations for streets in the city, only the elevation for the top of the curbs shall be indicated; these shall be shown at the outer or property line of each intersecting street and at each point where a change of grade occurs, and between the points so indicated the grade shall be uniform and straight whether so stated or not.

Main Street and all streets parallel with or having the same general course shall be given a level cross section, that is, the curbs upon either side of the roadway at opposite pointing shall have the same elevation, and all cross or intersecting streets shall have not more than five-tenths of one percent per one hundred feet in cross section of said points of intersection with Main or parallel streets but in all cases the curb grade must conform to the curb grade of the last mentioned streets. The grade of the cross streets or intersecting streets shall run only between the property lines of the parallel streets, and the elevations of tops of curbs must be indicated opposite the block or property line, and at all other points where there may be a change of grade. In all cases the rate percent of rise or fall of grade between the points of change shall be indicated in feet and decimals of foot. All grades when established by the surveyor shall be reported to the council and adopted by ordinances stating elevation in feet above city datum. (Prior code § 9.08.010).
