CIVIL DEFENSE*

8.16.010 Zone Boundaries.

The civil defense control for all civil defense activities within Yakima County will extend from the county to the following fourteen subdivisions, hereafter designated as zones:

(1)    Grandview Zone. Comprising Grandview and area south of Rattlesnake Ridge, north of Yakima River and east of Hanford Road and Waneta Road and Grey Road.

(2)    Granger Zone. Comprising Granger and area south of Rattlesnake Ridge, north of Yakima River, east of Lucy Lane and west of North Outlook Road.

(3)    Harrah Zone. Comprising Harrah, Brownstown, White Swan and the area south of Ahtanum Ridge, north of the Fort Road extended west, and west of the east line of Section 35, Township 11, Range 18, E.W.M.

(4)    Mabton Zone. Comprising Mabton, Byron and area south of Yakima River and east of west line of Section 29, Township 10, Range 21, E.W.M.

(5)    Moxee Zone. Comprising the city of Moxee and that rural area east of the city of Yakima and Yakima River further described as Moxee Valley and Terrace Heights district east to the county line.

(6)    Naches Zone. Comprising Lower Naches, city of Naches, area between Naches River and the bluff line west of river land lying north of a line starting at junction of Naches and Tieton Rivers and running westerly along the divide between the Naches and Tieton Rivers.

(7)    Selah Zone. That area comprising city of Selah and the rural area within Yakima County north of the junction of Naches and the Yakima Rivers, further described as the Selah-Wenas Valley and East Selah District extending north and west to the Yakima-Kittitas County boundary.

(8)    Sunnyside Zone. Comprising Sunnyside and area south of Rattlesnake Ridge, north of Yakima River, east of North Outlook Road, and west of Hanford Road and Waneta Road and Grey Road.

(9)    Tieton Zone. Comprising Cowiche, Tieton and Naches Heights and area between a line extending westerly from the junction of the Naches and Tieton Rivers, along the divide between the two rivers and existing southerly boundary of the Naches District and westerly of the bluff line west of Naches River.

(10)    Toppenish Zone. Comprising Toppenish and area west of Yakima River and the east line of Section 7, Township 10, Range 21, E.W.M. extended south and south of a line beginning at the intersection of the north line of Section 35, Township 11, Range 20; thence west to northwest corner of Section 36, Township 11, Range 18; thence south to Fort Road; thence west to county line.

(11)    Union Gap Zone. Comprising the city of Union Gap and that rural area within Yakima County known as the Gromore-Harwood District, Wide Hollow District, Ahtanum Valley which lies west of the boundaries of the “Yakima Zone” as described below to Yakima County line including all of the unincorporated towns, namely Tampico, Ahtanum and Wiley City.

(12)    Wapato Zone. Comprising Wapato, Parker and area south of Ahtanum Ridge, west of Yakima River, north of Branch Road and east of west line of Section 25, Township 11, Range 18, E.W.M.

(13)    Yakima Zone. Comprising the area bounded on the north and east by the Naches River to its junction with the Yakima River and by the Yakima River to a point opposite a prolongation of the line of Washington Street; thence west on Washington Street to Glenside Avenue; thence north on Glenside Avenue to Tieton Drive; thence west on Tieton Drive to Minnesota Avenue; thence north on Minnesota Avenue to Englewood Avenue; thence east on Englewood Avenue to Scenic Drive; thence Pecks Canyon Road; thence to Power House Road; thence northwest on Power House Road to Nelson Bridge on the Naches River. In addition to the above described area, the entire area comprising the Yakima Municipal Airport is included in the Yakima civil defense zone.

(14)    Zillah Zone. Comprising Zillah, Buena and the area south of Rattlesnake Ridge, east of the Yakima River and west of Lucy Lane.

8.16.020 Jurisdiction.

The mayor of each incorporated city within Yakima County shall assume jurisdiction over, coordinate and direct all agencies necessary for the public health, safety and welfare within such zones in the event of emergencies requiring such action.
