PAYMENT OF FINES BY NONRESIDENTS

9.70.010 Authority to detain.

The police for the city are authorized to detain any and all out-of-state residents who violate the speed and traffic laws of the city until the payment of the bail amount as posted in the city ordinance. (Ord. 747 § 1, 1977)

9.70.020 Release upon payment.

The nonresidents may be released from custody upon payment of the bail schedule in a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Sumas municipal court and depositing same in the postal office in the city. (Ord. 747 § 2, 1977)

9.70.030 Officers prohibited from receiving payment.

At no time are the officers of the Sumas police department authorized to accept money in payment of fines personally from a violator and bail may only be posted in the manner stated in Section 9.70.020. (Ord. 747 § 3, 1977)

9.70.040 Prepaid envelopes.

The city shall have printed and made up the necessary envelopes with postage prepaid for the violators to deposit in the post office and the officer shall personally observe the deposit of the envelope into the post office. (Ord. 747 § 4, 1977)

9.70.050 Receipt delivery by officer.

The officer shall deliver a receipt for the payment upon observing it being deposited in the post office, which receipt shall have the date of the offense, the traffic citation number, the name of the defendant and the amount of the bail deposited. (Ord. 747 § 5, 1977)
