Chapter 13.32
TESTING

Sections:

13.32.010    Presence of superintendent required.

13.32.020    Method.

13.32.030    Allowable leakage rate.

13.32.040    Rates of leakage-Head greater than fifteen feet.

13.32.050    Preliminary test by contractor.

13.32.010 Presence of superintendent required.

All service sewers shall be tested for leakage in the presence of the superintendent or his authorized representative. (Ord. 699 § 8.01, 1972)

13.32.020 Method.

Service sewers shall be tested by plugging the line on the upstream side of the inspection tee and completely filling the system to the lowest fixture, drain, or cleanout within the building itself. The test shall be continued until the rate of leakage is stabilized and then the leakage shall be measured volumetrically by adding makeup water at the fixture drain or cleanout. (Ord. 699 § 8.02, 1972)

13.32.030 Allowable leakage rate.

The rate of leakage in the service sewer shall not exceed the following amounts per one hundred feet of pipe:

4" A.C. pipe

0.47 gal/hr.

4" VCT.

2.0 gal/hr.

6" A.C. pipe

0.47 gal/hr.

6" VCT.

3.0 gal/hr.

8" A.C. pipe

0.63 gal/hr.

8" VCT.

4.0 gal/hr.

(Ord. 699 § 8.03, 1972)

13.32.040 Rates of leakage-head greater than fifteen feet.

The rates of leakage given in Section 13.32.030 shall be used for a head of water at the low point of the system up to and including fifteen feet. If a greater head would occur, due to the elevation of the building above the sewer, and additional tee or tees may be inserted in the line and the service sewer tested in sections. In this case, each section so tested shall meet the foregoing requirements. (Ord. 699 § 8.04, 1972)

13.32.050 Preliminary test by contractor.

A tentative test may be made by the side sewer con tractor or owner prior to backfilling the trench at the time of inspection of the pipe-laying; however, the final acceptance test for leakage shall be made following backfill of all but the inspection tee, so that the complete backfill load will be on the pipe. (Ord. 699 § 8.05, 1972)
